Program Description
Guided Woodland Hikes at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge allow students to explore and learn about various woodland habitats including the Pine Barrens, a field, freshwater pond, a carnivorous bog and wetlands. Topics include the local flora and fauna, fire ecology, forest layers, decomposition, succession and habitat protection/human impacts. A visit to the animals in the Outdoor Wildlife Complex allows viewing of a variety of injured native raptors and mammals. The Nature Center is situated overlooking Old Ice Pond and has nature related exhibits, live snakes and turtles, a touch table and more. This program is appropriate for all grade levels and can be tailored to include topics that the students are learning in class. The program time can be extended to 150 minutes or 210 minutes allowing time for lunch and longer hike and price will adjust accordingly.
