Program Description
The Northern Bobwhite Quail Program is an educational opportunity to teach students about our local ecology, predator-prey relationships, animal life cycles, egg incubation, chick brooding, habitat restoration, and doing something good for the environment through hands-on inquiry learning. This in-school program will detail the life cycle of Quail, their ecology, the history of the project, and benefit to the environment. Bobwhite Quail are ground dwelling omnivores and natural predators of ticks. Although previously abundant, Bobwhite Quail have been pretty much extirpated from Long Island. Join Ranger Eric Powers and CEED Educators in our conservation effort to repopulate the Northern Bobwhite Quail, reduce ticks, and bring balance to the Long Island Ecosystems! This lively presentation informs students and teachers about the project, the science, and how to get involved including classroom participation. Sign up for our "Quail Mail" e-mail on our website. *Participants will be invited to the Quail releases in July!
