Program Description
Focus on the local history of Miller Place by guiding students on a walking tour of the historic district with examples of colonial architecture and history of early settlers of those homes. Include stops at historic pond and The Academy (one-room schoolhouse). The tour culminates with historic homestead of William Miller House, circa 1720. A docent-led guide through this living museum provides students with an experience and understanding of life in early Long Island prior to formation of America. Three sections of the house have been restored to their period. Students will visit an historic barn filled with farming tools, view an original outhouse, cistern and corn cribs and one-room original post office. This is a step back in time for students and adults.
