Program Description
Brookhaven National Lab's Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) uses powerful electric and magnetic fields to accelerate charged particles around 2.4-mile ring, helping scientists probe the fundamental building blocks of matter. In this session, students will use table-top particle accelerators with the help of BNL staff to track beams of electrons. They’ll collect and graph their data, determine the line of best fit, and calculate the charge-to-mass ratio of the electron — a key concept in accelerator design. **AGREEMENT TO TERMS needs to be signed by an authorized District representative and on file to process any Contract requests submitted to AIE. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS, REQUESTS WILL BE CANCELLED WITHOUT AGREEMENT TO TERMS ON FILE WITH AIE. **The Technical Services Agreement needs to be made available to teachers who participate in BNL programs.
