Project title: Mural Collaboration
Project Description:
The collaborative mural experience offers students the opportunity to explore the power of imagination, share their creativity, appreciate the value of teamwork to reach a common goal, and learn a variety of basic painting techniques. A theme is chosen (some examples include: kindness, celebrating diversity, sports, protecting the environment etc…) and students are given an assignment to make drawings that represent the theme which they then submit to be incorporated into the design. The artist/educator, Joe Pimentel, creates a digital design incorporating the student artwork (the digital work is done in color and imposed on the wall to give an accurate rendering of what the final mural will look like).
Once the design is approved the artist outlines the entire composition and the students then assist with painting the mural from start to finish. The project allows them to build confidence as they learn hands on about the process. Upon completion, the students have the satisfaction of making their mark and are left feeling inspired by the experience as it demonstrates what is possible with dedication and hard work. The artist uses this process as a way to send a message to students about following their dreams and reaching for their full potential.
