Fire Island. The name conjures up miles of silky white sand beaches, vibrant beach villages and an eye-catching array of vegetation and the iconic Fire Island Lighthouse. Join us as we travel back 20,000 years to a time when ice covered the earth and humans had not yet arrived in the Americas as we explore the birth and development of this oceanside paradise. You will gain an appreciation of the geologic processes that formed the island, the ecological processes that populated it and some key issues facing the island today.
