Program Description
Melanie Hope Greenberg is an author and a widely published illustrator of 17 trade published picture books. Greenberg’s visual interactive workshops are best suited for K through 5th Grade. The workshops include the process of picture book creation in very simple language to suit each grade level. In Greenberg’s colorful visual programs learn how words and text come together, who works behind the scenes with an author as a publishing team. Students are shown how their unique visions can be realized, how to use enjoyable research to create first drafts, storyboards, then final text, and artwork for publication. Students will “see” how an author writes visually for illustration using pacing and narrative arc; what revisions look like; how the illustrator creates deeper layers of the text through color, composition, and characters. Learn what stays in and what gets the cut by the time a book lands on the bookshelf. The author's picture books tie into the social studies, visual, and language arts curriculums; and show the how an author’s real life, non-fiction experiences can be fictionalized in a picture book. Student interactive participation is encouraged. Reading, Drawing, Q&A. Maximum 4 sessions a day. Teacher guides available with discussion questions, coloring pages, prompts, and extension activities.
