Program Description
Black History Month or any time of year. Children put on multiple short plays in the classroom. Goals tie into the CRSE Framework by recognizing and affirming the enormous contributions African Americans have made to American society and to the world. Using five 15 minute plays written about Frederick Douglass, Ruby Bridges, Louie Armstrong, Wilma Rudolph and Stacy Abrams (others also available) students learn to use theatre skills to bring these plays to life in the classroom. This unit of study is 6 lessons per classroom, six days in duration. Theatre teaching artist’s lessons include “the actors warm up” games that use body, voice and imagination. Students learn to read with expression as they move about the classroom imagined as a movie set.. A six lesson residency.
