Program Description
Lakota Sioux native Ina McNeil of Hempstead explores her traditional background and cultural practices through stories and legends of her family life that descended from Chief Sitting Bull. McNeil is an accomplished quilter and dollmaker as well as master historian for her tribe. Students will learn about the traditional art and culture of the Lakota Sioux, as well as McNeil's personal challenges attending an Indian boarding school operated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a child. This program promotes inclusivity and learning about other cultures.
