Program Description
Joan Hodges, African American fiber artist of Hempstead, explores her traditional background and artwork relating to the Civil Rights movement and the Underground Railroad. Hodges, a master storyteller, is an accomplished quilter and doll maker. She is also a civil rights activist. Her program will deal with the social justice issues around the civil rights movement, will teach about culture and community, and will include an examination of structures related to civil rights and African American history.
