Program Description
Sejal Kudadia is the only female classical tabla soloist in the United States. Learning to play and perform tabla was historically a male-dominated profession, but Sejal apprenticed in India and has become the sole female classical tabla soloist in this country. She will discuss the background, history and the role of tabla in South Asian society as well as the importance of music and this ancient instrument in their community. She will also discuss being a woman in a male-dominated field. Demonstrations of how to play and musical components specific to Indian tabla music are part of the presentation. This is a virtual program.
