Program Description
Can you survive “living off the land” on Stony Brook’s West Meadow Creek? WMHO’s historic archaeological dig unearthed evidence of a 5000 year old encampment of Long Island’s earliest peoples. Students first learn about this evidence, and what it tells us about the difference in cultures of Long Island's earliest indigenous peoples, as well as their impact on the world we know today. To test their new knowledge, students will be engaged in an interactive survival game to see if they could survive on West Meadow Creek using- while also conserving!- the natural resources of the marsh to provide shelter, food and even medicine.
