Program Description
AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 2024-JUNE 2025 **Access to this virtual program, along with its study guide, will be provided for a period of 2 weeks.** Through a virtual setting, Pushcart Players offers a spirited salute to America in song, dance and story. This uplifting production takes a loving look at a small group of immigrants who came to this country in 1903 seeking freedom, opportunity and a better life for themselves, their children and their children’s children. The immigrants in our play provide a symbolic representation of the many émigrés from a multitude of nations that have reached our shores over the years. Prevailing themes throughout the presentation are the immigrant experience, ethnic diversity, and the precious legacy of freedom and democracy in America. (This production is wonderful for all ages. The time period of this show begins in 1903 when immigrants come through Ellis Island, and ends in 1963 with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech. We touch upon WWI, the Roaring '20's, the Great Depression, WWII, there's a 1950's medley, and we end in Washington D.C. during the early '60's.) In both casting practices and subject matter, Pushcart Players provides a welcoming and affirming environment. Teaching artists and performers reflect the diversity of our constituents, providing identification and a natural significance to these young learners. Subject matter addresses a broad range of inclusive curriculum: history, literature, world-culture, social emotional learning, values clarification, civics, anti-racism, and anti-bullying. With all in-person performances, assessment occurs with a post-production question and answer session.
