"Disability is OK!" (Virtual Workshops available) is a disability awareness presentation that can be modified for different age groups. Through creative self-awareness practices, sharing photos, videos, stories, “I Am” poems and examples (i.e. mobility devices, accessible equipment, good/bad scenarios) as well as ice breakers and theatre games, we will create a safe space to ask questions, be curious and learn about difference. Both Sofiya Cheyenne and Clinton Brown have dwarfism and have been sharing their story to teach youth all over New York! We bring an incredible amount of knowledge since both of our experiences are so unique.
Workshops are subject to change based on age and size of group. 45min - 1 hour sessions: Classroom style - no more than 40-50 students; Assembly style - contingent on age and whether materials and AV equipment is available
Sofiya is a teaching artist, performer and disability advocate. She has been teaching various arts practices for ages 2-18 for over ten years throughout New York City. Through sharing her story, she encourages the power of community, self-expression and storytelling. Her lessons are centered on themes of identity, and inclusive language and as a result, students building empathy for their friends and thinking through an anti-bullying lens. Sofiya believes engaging students about her disability and the use of “meaningful play” is the best way to bring up our future leaders of the world!! www.sofiyacheyenne.com
