Led by Dr. Jamel Coy Hudson, professor of rhetoric and public advocacy, this interactive workshop challenges participants to move beyond surface-level conversations about bias and into a deeper understanding of how unconscious thoughts shape the ways we perceive, interact, and communicate across differences. Through performance-based activities—integrating public speaking, comedy, music, and storytelling—participants are invited to engage with complex ideas in ways that are accessible, memorable, and transformative. These exercises not only uncover the hidden influence of implicit bias but also highlight the role of communication in either reinforcing or breaking down barriers between people. The workshop concludes with practical strategies that participants can apply immediately in their personal, educational, and professional lives. By its end, participants will: Recognize how implicit and unconscious biases influence communication and decision-making. Analyze the impact of these biases on intercultural interactions and relationships. Practice tools for fostering respectful, inclusive, and effective dialogue across lines of difference. Identify ways to use their platforms as educators, leaders, or community members to cultivate environments grounded in equity, respect, and acceptance.
