In 2017, history came to life on Long Island when TBR News Media created its first feature film, One Life to Give. This incredible true story was filmed in cinematic 4.6K and follows American Revolutionary War hero Nathan Hale during the bloody summer of 1776. Captain Nathan Hale was a graduate of Yale and a teacher in Connecticut when he was recruited by former classmate and Setauket local Benjamin Tallmadge. Their friendship forever altered the course of history. This film explores the origins of the Culper Spy Ring and the events that took place in the days before, during, and after The Battle of Long Island. This cinematic experience is the perfect way to introduce your students to the Culper Spy Ring and the American Revolution. Filmed locally only in authentic 18th century buildings and properties, this piece has been celebrated by ordinary movie-goers and historians alike. Our first screening was held at the Stony Brook Staller Center and had an estimated one thousand attendees. This film series is the perfect way to begin Revolutionary War or Culper Spy curriculum.
