Program Description
Talking Art programs present an exploration of visual communication, masks and traditional arts, along with stories from art history, in entertaining storytelling performances illustrated by painted faces, supported by Christopher Agostino’s decades of experience as a performance artist. From Cave Walls to Picasso, Talking Art connects students to essential questions about art and how art works, from its origins as a synthetic means to preserve and convey social information, through traditional uses of art to communicate stories and values of a society, to the appropriation of cultural sources and functions of art as inspiration for modern artists. This multidisciplinary approach gives students tools for understanding and evaluating the role of art in world cultures, facilitating visual arts and writing projects. Assembly programs and classroom demonstrations with variable content to suit grade levels and project goals. See also “Christopher Agostino’s StoryFaces” storytelling program.
