Program Description
The Plaza offers a variety of field trips that are appropriate for grades 3 - 5 focusing on the fundamentals of storytelling and animation. In the past, students have participated in interactive lessons where they watched animated films, learned about the fundamentals of animation and gained hands on experience creating their own stop motion films. First, we will screen a film and discuss the story with the group. After talking about the film students gain hands on experience creating their own work and developing a story. The field trip allows kids to be creative and hands on while developing an understanding of the visual storytelling process. Students will also learn about the process of creating a short animation, and act as a team performing various roles to complete a project. This team building parallels the real life process of professional animators working together (who work as a team to create) creating a show or movie. We will provide all materials for the students to create their movie. However, if they would like to bring in toys or other small props they can feel free to do so.
