Program Description
Award-winning children's author, Cindy Sommer, is thrilled to share her debut picture book, Saving Kate's Flowers, through educational publisher, Arbordale Publishing. Her fun, interactive program includes direct ties to Common Core Anchor Standards. Cindy discusses how like a seed that grows into a plant with a flower, an idea can grow and bloom into a picture book. Most beneficial to small groups of up to 30 children, she covers the simple process of publishing a picture book including props of written and typed manuscripts and picture book dummies, with audience participation. After reading her book, the needs of a plant, the plant life cycle, annuals and perennials, how seeds travel, and parts of a plant are discussed. For larger groups of up to 100 students, PowerPoint is used. Q&A period or writing lesson if time allows. A copy of the book will be given to the school's library.
