Program Description
Dafna Soltes Stein, Theatre and Physical Movement Teaching Artist guides students to take risks, depend upon and trust others using theatre games and drama activities., Students communicate, collaborate and think critically in order to accomplish assigned tasks. This series of workshops enables students to recognize and understand the complex world of connecting and disconnecting from others. Students strengthen awareness of non-verbal communication, experiencing how much can be revealed and understood about another person's mindset and mood through facial expression, body posture, gestures and tone of voice. Using dialogue from popular song lyrics students create scenarios that take place in the hallways, playgrounds and cafeterias of their schools. They ask themselves: When do I need to step up, step in, step away? What do I say and how do I say it? Developing social emotional skills through theatre is invigorating. It is play with a purpose.
