Program Description
Music and Me 123 is an interactive program designed to show students how music can be a powerful medium for learning, self-expression, and community building. Through listening, performing, and exploring the foundations of songwriting, students gain skills that connect music to literacy, history, and cultural awareness. The program is facilitated by Educational Consultants from Empower 1 Self, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to youth empowerment through arts-in-education. Consultants work directly with schools to provide engaging, hands-on experiences that allow students to discover their creative voices and appreciate music as both an art form and a tool for advocacy. The program is directed by Dr. Jamel C. Hudson, a professor, rhetorician, and community leader. Dr. Hudson holds undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees in rhetorical studies and is a Lecturer of Rhetoric and Public Advocacy at CUNY Baruch College. Beyond academia, he is an artist, performer, and theomusicologist who uses music and spoken word to inspire social change.
