Program Description
ASSEMBLIES or SINGLE CLASSES- Take a trip around the world on the potter’s wheel with Cliff Mendelson of Day in Clay. Explore multiple cultures and their interconnectedness through patterns, symbols and imagery through the forms created in clay. It’s like magic to see Cliff recreate 5000 year old large pots right in front of the audience. Most sigh in delight and amazement in how fast these vessels take shape that are designed and painted referencing cultures of Greece, Japan, China and Africa Native Am. It’s like you are in his studio and get to see what he does as an artist and designer-- like a fly on the wall. He engages everyone on all levels. Student make collaborative pottery to exemplify the patterns and textures of various cultures explored during Day in Clay workshops. Students partake in a group collaborative piece that results in a customized vessel that promotes teambuilding and bonding and cultural diversity. Students display finished pieces showcased in the library or school hallways for parents and relatives to view.
