A ten-week social development and arts-in-education residency program composed of twenty 40-45 minute lessons using social dance to build confidence, teamwork, physical skills, and to support academic excellence. CoDanceCo, Inc. is the non-profit licensed Global Network administrative home for Dancing Classrooms LI. This course introduces students to seven ballroom and latin dance traditions integrating the history and geography of each dance. The Teaching Artist collaborates with the classroom teacher to create curriculum connections; the teachers participate in every lesson. The residency culminates in performance activities which encourage family members' attendance and participation. A minimum of two grade sections or classrooms must be booked. The residency fee per section or class decreases if four or more courses are booked. The program can be taught in its traditional, partnered version (“Core” program) or in two socially distanced versions, "Safe Space,” where students are taught in lines, or “Connecting With Care,” where students use jump ropes to connect with partners. Both socially distanced programs are free from physical contact.
