Explore the lives of 19th century whalers and the importance of whaling in American history, especially on Long Island at the Whaling Museum. Students learn the how, why and when of whale hunting, explore nautical artifacts used on whaling ships up close, and understand the need for whale conservation today. Students try their hand at carving Scrimshaw, a classic sailor's folk craft. 120 min.
