Program Description
This beloved performance celebrates nature and all the simple things we can do to make a difference. Both educational and wonderfully entertaining "Let's Go Eco!" explores topics like Recycling, Water Conservation, and Bio-Diversity. Depending on the age-range stories may include: What Now, Cloacina?, Diane’s hilarious story about a water sprite who travels through the sewage system in search of her reservoir or Boy Who Loved the Marsh, based on the true story of a 5th Grade student who helps preserve a favorite nature spot. What shines through the entire presentation is a love and respect for our place in nature; with many ideas communicated about how we can make a difference. “Dear Diane, Thank you so much for your outstanding work during the past two days. You are a wonderful storyteller- the children were mesmerized. In addition, the concepts we work so hard to teach regarding the need to respect and care for our earth, really came to life. The classroom visits further enhanced the children’s understanding and the teacher workshop was super!” Diane Willard, Squantum School, Squantum, MA “All the teachers had enthusiastic comments about your performances, their age-appropriateness and how well they dovetail with our environmental curriculum. Even the self-conscious 7th graders! You spoke to them where they were and it was magic to see them thawing and joining in. Many thanks.” Martha Hoar, Essex School, Essex MA Diane Edgecomb has been recognized nationally by Storytelling Magazine as a leader in the use of storytelling to promote environmental awareness. She has worked with nature organizations throughout the Northeast including the Mass. Audubon Society, the Park Service, and the Museum Institute for Teaching Science, giving performances, workshops, and demonstrations on innovative ways to link storytelling and nature education.
