Program Description
Using overhead transparencies, chart boards, readings, discussion and interactive writing exercises, students identify critical elements of story (character in action, setting or sense of place and problem) from the opening page of a short narrative. Brian Heinz' examples focus on sensory details, four ways to engage a reader, use of specific concrete language, and the "power" of nouns and verbs as detail. Includes interactive group session on revision and editing tied to the Common Core.
