Program Description
Introduce students to Japan through the exciting sounds of the Taiko drums, folk dance and martial arts. Descriptions of Japanese culture, both traditional and modern, such as the popularity of Sushi (traditional) and Anime (modern) allow the children to 'connect' with the Japanese people. Students learn how the Taiko drums infused all aspects of traditional Japanese life from villagers to temple priests to the Samurai. Students play the drums in workshops given in the second half of the presentation, along with learning Japanese folk dances.
