Program Description
A longhouse is constructed, made from maple saplings, cattail mats and tree bark, recreating a village setting of Native People of the Northeast. The Native connection with nature is presented through demonstrations, touch displays, activities and a take-home craft. Deer skins, bones, shells, stones and wood are shown in their natural state then viewed changed into daily use items. Children are able to handle the deer skins, deer bone tools and toys, grind corn in log bowls. Making a wampum necklace brings the memory home.
