Program Description
Kinetic Canvas is an interactive learning experience that blends music and vocal expression with interpretative visualization through movement. We partner with music and art teachers, language arts classes and multi-cultural clubs in empowering students of all skill levels to interpret a theme with improvisational instrumentation and sound, multi- lingual spoken word and movement inspired by our interconnectedness with nature and with each other. Kinetic Canvas acts as a bridge for personal and collective narratives to emerge from discussion and commingle with traditional instruments and new media tools. Allowing students to venture beyond pre- written scores, together we collaborate on an original composition that can be performed to a live audience. Light Painting visuals created in response to the concepts that emerge are used as live interactive backdrops. Upon completing this program, students have created something uniquely their own, while gaining skills and confidence they can apply to their coursework, career aspirations and personal lives. Showing them a path to creating new possibilities for themselves by opening their senses, their imaginations and curiosity.
