Program Description
In this program, your students deepen their understanding of creative writing with symbolism, story structure, and developing details. Author/illustrator Rodro selects from his books and illustrations to demonstrate how storyboarding is used to develop stories for picture books, movies, TV shows, and even video games. For inspiration, Students see video examples of the process from Pixar and others. They participate in group and individual brainstorming activities, contributing original ideas to learn what writing and illustrating have in common. Following a structure of basic story elements, each art form (drawing and writing) helps them deepen their understanding of the other. They discover how the 1000 words a picture is worth can help them find the keywords they need to write a successful and captivating story. The end product is a three- page, beginning-middle-end illustrated story. The project structure allows for Teachers’ writing goals to be incorporated into the lessons.
