Program Description
The impoverished youth of the South Bronx weren’t supposed to do anything! Yet, against all odds, they innovated the multi-billion-dollar global phenomenon of hip-hop. Using the example of their resilience, innovation, and remarkable talent, this program inspires your students to discover their own passion and creativity. Starting with a vision board, your students focus on their idea of a best life as motivation to plot a realistic course toward achieving that goal (employment, college, and career readiness). Then, using the inspiring images, text, quotes, and people from their boards, they reinforce their plan by writing a rap, a spoken-word poem, a song, or an inspirational letter to themself. This program fosters social/emotional learning, builds confidence, and empowers your students with a belief in the strength of their creativity. They discover the undeniable value of the personal expression that is uniquely their own and how they can use it to succeed in school and in life.
