Program Description
Sam’s Weather School brings the excitement of weather and science to life through interactive, hands-on learning experiences that spark curiosity and inspire young scientists. Led by Long Island broadcast meteorologist Samantha Augeri, students explore topics such as weather forecasting, storm development, wind patterns, and atmospheric pressure. Through engaging visuals and fun experiments, students stay captivated and even have the opportunity to deliver their own forecast in front of a green screen. Each session connects real-world weather to core science concepts while fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and alignment with the New York State Science Standards and principles of Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Education (CR-S). Lessons are designed to honor student voice and cultural backgrounds by inviting learners to share their own experiences with weather and the environment in their communities. Students explore how weather impacts people differently around the world and in their local area, encouraging empathy, global awareness, and an appreciation for diverse perspectives in science. With more than 15 years of broadcast experience at News 12 Long Island and Fox 5 New York, Samantha combines her meteorological expertise with a passion for education. Currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Teaching in Earth Science, she created Sam’s Weather School to empower students from all backgrounds to see themselves as scientists who are ready to explore, question, and discover the world around them.
