Program Description
Discover the art and science of Hapazome, a Japanese technique that transfers plant pigments directly onto fabric through gentle hammering. Participants explore how leaves and flowers reveal their hidden colors, learning how natural dyes connect to plant biology and chemistry. This hands-on experience bridges global traditions of natural dyeing with modern scientific curiosity, blending creativity, observation, and experimentation. Each participant creates a unique eco print while exploring chlorophyll, anthocyanins, and tannins, and how structure and pressure influence pigment release. Adaptable for all ages, this workshop supports a welcoming and affirming environment by honoring diverse cultural knowledge, encouraging collaboration, and promoting sensory and creative engagement with the natural world.
