Program Description
La Pizzica is a vibrant folk dance from Puglia, Italy, that blends history, music, and community into an unforgettable cultural experience. Once linked to ancient healing rituals, it has evolved into a joyful celebration performed at festivals and on stages worldwide. In this workshop and performance, participants learn basic dance steps guided by skilled instructors, experience the rhythms of traditional instruments such as the tamburello and violin, and explore the colorful costumes that bring the dance to life. A live show by professional dancers and musicians immerses the audience in the energy of Southern Italy while inviting them to join in, turning spectators into participants. The program concludes with a discussion on dance as cultural expression, the preservation of folklore, and cross-cultural influences, helping students connect the story of La Pizzica to broader themes of identity, tradition, and diversity.
