Program Description
SUMMER ARTS EDUCATION WORKSHOP Join us for an immersive experience with a community of artists and art educators committed to IDEAS; fostering inclusive, diverse, equitable, accessible, and safe learning environments. Explore past and present aspects of IDEAS in the field of art education in the United States through hands-on multi-media creative practice, related to contemporary artists whose work supports teaching IDEAS, archival exploration of IDEAS in the history of art education, and critical discussion towards envisioning the future of integrating IDEAS the field. The IDEAS weekend workshop will provide space for collaborative dialogue, interdisciplinary experimentation, and reflective art making. Participants will leave with an empowered understanding of how IDEAS principles intersect with arts education history and practice, as well as innovative tools for enacting change in their own teaching, creative work, and institutions. CTLE certificate provided. Where do we see it? When has it been integral to learning communities? Why is it important? How do we practice it? 12-12:30 PM Break 12:30-1:30 PM Catered lunch, studio time 1:30-4:30 PM IDEAS past and present through contemporary artists and journaling 4:30-6 PM Free time 6-8 PM Location TBD—Dinner (catered), IDEAS Music/Arts workshop with Dudley Music and Diego Garcia Saturday, June 20—Victor D’Amico Art Institute art barge and house (archive) 9 AM Meet at the Patchogue LIRR to take train to Amagansett 10:35 Pick up by art barge staff and ride to D’Amico House 11 AM-5 PM Tour of D’Amico House and ride to the Art Barge, focused hands-on workshop/experience, working lunch, (catered), lecture/discussion led by Ann Holt, closing/critique 5 PM Ride to Amagansett LIRR 5:30 PM Dinner on your own in Amagansett or Patchogue (trains depart at 5:38 and 8:04) Sunday, June 21— PAC MOCA LI 9:00-9:15 Opening circle 9:15-10:15 Dialogue—envisioning the future of IDEAS 10:15-10:30 Break 10:30-11:30 Collaborative sound art—envisioning the future of IDEAS 11:30-11:45 Break/clean-up 11:45-12:00 Closing circle Payment and Cancellation Policy: Please secure any permissions/payment agreements from your school district PRIOR TO registering. This event is limited to 20 participants. Once you register, your space is reserved and you are responsible for payment. No cancellations can be accepted unless a replacement participant is found.
