Program Description
The ILYAS & DUCK Show is an interactive children’s program that brings to life the captivating stories of Muslim culture, written and performed by acclaimed author Omar S. Khawaja. Featuring beloved characters from the Ilyas & Duck book series, this engaging show invites young audiences on an immersive journey through Islamic traditions, focusing especially on the holy month of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid-al-Fitr. Through heartfelt and relatable storytelling, children experience the joy, community spirit, and values of these holidays, learning about fasting, gratitude, personal development, doing good deeds, and charity in fun, age-appropriate ways. Aligned with the New York State Department of Education’s Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CR-S) Framework, ILYAS & DUCK fosters a respect for diversity and cultural awareness among young learners. This program serves as a culturally responsive resource, celebrating and sharing the essence of Ramadan and Eid-al-Fitr, connecting students to the shared human experiences of joy, family, and giving. Through storytelling that is engaging and accessible to children of all backgrounds, the show promotes cultural sustainability by enhancing understanding and encouraging respect for Muslim traditions and values. As children learn about Ramadan and Eid-al-Fitr through captivating storytelling, ILYAS & DUCK helps them build cross-cultural empathy and a deeper sense of belonging within a diverse community. It is a valuable program for children of all backgrounds, inspiring curiosity and creating a welcoming space for everyone to feel connected and celebrated.
