Program Description
Students will learn basic through advanced Tap steps and technique based on age, level, and experience. Cultural and historical impact of Tap dancing as it applies to the U.S. can also be addressed. Residency will be tailored to meet the needs of the school and students. A structured residency will be created and modified to be as exploratory and in depth as requested. Artistic Process: Teaching artist will begin with warm up exercises (coordination, agility, and balance), followed by learning about rhythm, then moving within given space. Students participating in a residency of five or more days will work together with the teaching artist to create a dance and could have the opportunity to perform. Anchor Standards: Allow students to experience the art of Tap dance in a non-competitive, non-judgmental environment. Students will improve memory, physical coordination, gross motor skills, and increase self-confidence. Tap dancing can also help students learn math in an artistic way.
