This interactive, hands-on workshop fosters a better understanding and acceptance of the challenges faced by individuals who are differently-abled. Students create a piece of Ceramic Art from the perspective of a person who is blind, or vision impaired. Without relying on the ability to see, students develop an appreciation for how their other senses add to the creative experience. Participants are introduced to Orientation and Mobility, Braille, Guiding, and Adaptive Technology.
Awareness, empathy and an understanding that challenges, physical and otherwise, do not equal DIS-ability, define us, or detract from our ability to create, will be the emphases. Character Education, Anti-bullying and Inclusivity are integral parts of the workshop. Students receive their artwork, an embossed Braille card, classroom handouts and a participation token.
