Program Description
In this workshop, Moriah will guide the students through a few techniques that printmakers use to make prints on fabric pieces. Moriah will provide examples of block prints and patterns using relief printing, with a brief history of the process. Students will sketch out ideas with scrap paper, and move to making their printing tool. They will use simple carving tools for rubber stamp making to create their designs. In a second workshop, students will finish their designs, and move to printing on provided fabric pieces. An option is to explore pattern-making further in fabrics or paper designs. They are welcome to bring in materials to print on as well. Students are invited to discuss their work and to interpret each other’s work positively and encouragingly. Moriah will work with educators to fit this workshop to complement the curriculum. This technique can be applied to the curriculum. It can also be that this workshop can be a de-stressor for students, and Moriah will guide the printmaking process for this kind of experience. There can be 60-minute sessions or 40-minute periods as necessary to your timing, and this process could be completed in at least 2 workshop sessions. Examples of timing: 60 minute periods: Workshop 1 is creating our block/stamp designs. Workshop 2 is completing designs and printmaking. Workshop 3 is optional to continue to print and experiment with pattern design. 40 minute periods: Workshops 1 and 2 are creating our block/stamp designs. Workshop 3 is completing designs and printmaking. Workshop 4 is optional to continue to print and experiment with pattern design.
