Program Description
Award-winning author/illustrator and social-emotional learning specialist Paul Rodriguez focuses 25 years of character development and anti-bullying into 20 delightful, content-rich stories. These stories explore the five CASEL core SEL domains of Social-Emotional Learning: Self-awareness, Self-management, Responsible Decision Making, Relationship Skills, and Social Awareness. The books and supporting activities help learners discover, explore, and understand challenging personal and social issues. These issues range from cultivating positive self-talk and navigating their multifaceted school community to caring about wildlife and the environment. The text and illustrations of each book provide a safe space to engage in Q&A conversations that can lead to sharing and, when appropriate deeper discussion of personal experiences. The Q&A and discussions are modified to accommodate K-5 learners. These learners develop a more nuanced understanding of complex SEL issues by collaborating to add their voices to the story.
