Program Description
In this captivating African Cultural Performance, Linda will enchant the audience with two extraordinary African folktales. The first one is "BRINGING THE RAIN TO KAPITI PLAIN" by Verna Aardema, illustrated by Beatriz Vidal. The second tale is "JAHA AND JAMIL WENT DOWN THE HILL," an African Mother Goose book. With great care, Linda will set the stage, adorning it with authentic props and traditional African Instruments, creating an immersive ambiance. During the show, Linda will warmly invite volunteers from the audience to take part in acting out the folktale, guiding them skillfully with clear and simple instructions for a seamless performance. As the tale unfolds, the audience will be captivated by the charm and magic of African folklore. Following the enchanting performance, Linda will delight the audience by sharing the well-known English version of the Mother Goose Rhyme, "Jack and Jill Went Up the Hill," encouraging everyone to recite it together. Building on this shared experience, she will then introduce the African rendition of the same Mother Goose Rhyme. Engaging the audience, Linda will pose thought-provoking comparison questions, inviting them to explore the differences and similarities between the two versions. Taking the stage once more, Linda will lead a few volunteers in acting out the African version of the Mother Goose Rhyme, accompanied by the sounds of African instruments played skillfully by some students in the background. The atmosphere will brim with cultural richness and excitement, fostering a deep appreciation for the diversity of traditions and storytelling. As time allows, Linda will continue to share more English and African versions of Mother Goose Rhymes, encouraging the audience to actively participate in comparing and contrasting these delightful tales. Throughout the performance, Linda's enthusiasm and passion for African culture will be evident, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who attends this extraordinary event.
