Program Description
In this workshop, students are invited to paint with watercolor, a very calming painting practice. Moriah will guide the students through a few techniques that painters use with this fluid medium, and help them create paintings that are as enjoyable to create as they are to view! Students will explore simple and fun techniques to narrate their work and will be challenged to convey their ideas in a visual language. Watercolor prep and study. Imagining your drawing- students sketch out ideas with pencil, using their ideas on watercolor paper. When we move to painting, students will practice watercolor techniques on a practice page, and get a feel of how to paint tints and forms. When they are comfortable, they will move to their composition piece and paint away. Students are invited to discuss their work and to interpret each other’s work positively and encouragingly. Moriah will work with educators to fit this workshop to complement the curriculum. This technique can be applied to lessons in Science, Social Studies, and ELA. For example, the workshop could be an interpretation of the literature that the students are reading, or applying to NY state landforms of the 4th-grade social studies curriculum. Moriah will tailor the drawing lessons to fit the curriculum timing. It can also be that this workshop can be a destresser for students, and Moriah will guide the painting process for this kind of experience. This workshop can be completed with a class of students in one session. An optional second session is available, where Moriah can work to display and exhibit the student’s artwork, conduct a positive and encouraging discussion where students can interpret each other’s work, and celebrate their achievements. Moriah can also create a brief video showcasing the finished pieces and create a digital animation of the student work to provide to the educators for this optional second session.
