Program Description
In this workshop, students are invited to paint with watercolor, a very calming painting practice. Moriah will guide the students through a few techniques that painters use with this fluid medium, and help them create paintings that are as enjoyable to create as they are to view! Students will explore simple techniques to narrate their work and will be challenged to convey their ideas in a visual language. They will sketch out ideas with pencil on watercolor paper. When we move to painting, students will practice watercolor techniques on a practice page, and get a feel of how to paint tints and forms. When they are comfortable, they will move to their composition piece and paint away. Students are invited to discuss their work and to interpret each other’s work positively and encouragingly. Moriah will work with educators to fit this workshop to complement the curriculum. This technique can be applied to the curriculum. For example, the workshop could be an interpretation of the literature, describing scientific concepts, or imagining historical events. Moriah will tailor the drawing lessons to fit the curriculum with the teachers. It can also be that this workshop can be a de-stresser for students, and Moriah will guide the painting process for this kind of experience. This workshop can be completed with a class of students in one 60-minute session. An optional 2nd session is available, if the project that the students are working on requires more time, or if we need to fit the workshop into 40-minute periods.
