Emmy award winning TV Journalist CHERYL WILLS trains students in the fundamental principles of broadcast journalism, and digital production, teaching them how to apply narrative storytelling to the news. Students also get an introduction to digital journalism, learning to produce their own news projects from start-to-finish. Throughout the program, students gain practical technical and creative skills through hands-on training, shooting their news segments with their smart phones! They learn the role of MMJ (multimedia journalist) in a fast-paced, professional environment, students tackle a range of responsibilities, such as identifying and interviewing their subjects, choosing and securing locations, arranging the preparation and setup of the locations, and making final technical checks.
They learn the "art of the interview" from Cheryl - a veteran journalist with more than 30 years experience in the NUMBER ONE NEWS MARKET - NYC!
Cheryl will coordinate with teachers/professors ahead to time to coordinate the workshop and students will work on news assignments ahead of her arrival.
The workshop begins with lecture and Q & A. Then after a rigorous discussion about television news - students begin their assignments and reports.
Cheryl also teaches the art of the "standup" where students appear on camera!
The workshop ends with a review of all of the students reports! Watch this recap of schools - Students LOVE IT and bring me back every year!
