Program Description
In this program, participants will work intuitively to create prints using Gelli plate as an introduction to monotype and printmaking. Layering of images and color theory will be addressed. These images can easily be worked into with a variety of materials to explore the individual voice of the artist. The materials that will be used will all be non-toxic and require no special solvents for clean up which promotes a safer and healthier classroom environment. Participants may choose to work collaboratively or individually. Participants will learn proper use of the materials and a variety of techniques as well as alternative methods on how to make their own temporary gel plates using materials that are easy to find in a grocery store. A general history of the different types of printmaking will be discussed as well as professional artists who use monotype as their medium of choice. There will be an additional charge for materials if the school does not have them on hand. Materials needed- Variety of Akua Inks or tempera or acrylic paints (Paint choice will be chosen based on grade level) baby wipes, Dawn dish detergent, drawing paper, brushes and brayers. Optional- Caran d Ache crayons, matte medium.
