Program Description
Award-winning author/illustrator and social-emotional learning specialist Paul Rodriguez focuses 25 years of character development and anti-bullying into an intensive Social-Emotional Learning unit of study. Let’s Go Emo uses five stories to explore the five CASEL core SEL domains of Social-Emotional Learning: Self-awareness, Self-management, Responsible Decision Making, Relationship Skills, and Social Awareness. Over the course of seven sessions, these core domains are then reinforced and enhanced with the tenets of Mindfulness and Executive Function. The program helps learners discover, explore, and understand challenging personal and social issues, from cultivating positive self-talk to navigating the complex social world of their school community. The text and illustrations of each book provide a safe space to engage in Q&A conversations and sharing. Finally, they create personalized comic strips to engrain their learning of these complex SEL issues even more deeply. Each lesson is supported by discussion guides and follow-up activities.
