Program Description
This 90-minute interactive presentation, will highlight the reasoning behind the observation of the United States Juneteenth holiday. In this workshop, Cultural Arts Educator and Visual Artist, Madona Cole-Lacy, will also take students on an exploratory journey of the emancipation of Africans enslaved by the British and the Americans. With the aid of visuals which include video clips, students will learn how the Creoles of Freetown Sierra Leone celebrate their freedom through the arts, fashion and culture. Option #2 below is available as a 90-minute follow-up. Option #2 (FREEDOM Textile Designing Workshop) After a demonstration of West African Adinkra and Gara textile designing techniques, students will create art on fabric panels using at least one of such techniques to reflect their individual expressions of FREEDOM. Cost includes Artist's fees and materials. Inquire about cost quote for a group size larger than the stated maximum.
