Describe the way(s) this program impacts your students learning and how this arts experience correlates with your curriculum: |
This program provided students with a meaningful interdisciplinary learning experience that connected visual arts, science, culture, and environmental stewardship. Through the study of animals, ecosystems, and humanity's relationship with nature, students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving the natural world for future generations. Students created watercolor paintings of their spirit animals while exploring indigenous traditions, music, artifacts, and cultural perspectives. The experience reinforced artistic skills such as observation, composition, color mixing, and watercolor techniques while encouraging self-reflection, cultural awareness, and creative expression. The program directly supported our visual arts curriculum by integrating artistic processes with environmental education, cultural studies, and personal connections to the natural world.

Suggestions to artists for improvements: |
I would suggest that the program be extended to a second session for all students to further explore the concepts and have adequate time to create a finished work of art with colored pencil or sharpie outline to finish off the piece after it has dried.
