Describe the way(s) this program impacts your students learning and how this arts experience correlates with your curriculum:
SCMEA PEAK is a select group of 4th Grade students from across Suffolk County that were nominated by their teachers and selected by a committee to attend this event. Every student there was engaged, actively participated and was enthusiastic about the activities. My students had the opportunity to work on music skills we learn at school at a higher level such as folk dancing, drumming and chorus. Their parents had to actively participate in each session as well and it gave the students the opportunities to be the teacher. They also experience new things like bucket drumming and foley arts. They got to perform with a chorus of 200 students. This is their first time with a group so large. They brought their excitement back to our school which I hope makes for an exciting year of making music.
Suggestions to artists for improvements:
I would love to be able to bring more students by expanding the number of presenters.
