Darren Sardelli’s visit had a significant impact on student learning by making poetry engaging, accessible, and fun. His dynamic group talk captivated the 5th graders, inspiring them to see poetry as an exciting and creative form of expression. Through his writing lessons in individual classrooms, students gained valuable insight into the writing process, learning how to brainstorm ideas, refine their work, and bring their poetry to life.
This experience directly supports our curriculum by reinforcing key literacy skills such as creative writing, figurative language, and revision techniques. It also fosters confidence in self-expression and encourages students to view writing as an enjoyable and meaningful activity. Sardelli’s interactive approach aligns with our goal of developing strong, enthusiastic writers while integrating the arts into our learning environment.
